Timeline of the Series
Character History

Shinichi was born to Yuusaku and Yukiko Kudo, a best-selling mystery author and a retired actress. At a very young age he found and became fascinated by the stories of Sherlock Holmes.By the age of six he had already decided that he wanted to become a detective like Holmes. By the age of sixteen he had solved hundreds of difficult cases and was already being asked to assist on cases by the police.

His future as a detective seemed set. But that all ended the day he finally ran into a case too big for him. While investigating some suspicious characters at an amusement park Shinichi was caught and forced to take an experimental poison. He was left for dead. But Shinichi didn't die. Instead the poison shrank him to the size of a young child.

Realizing that the criminals might return if they discovered he was still alive, Shinichi took on the identity of Conan Edogawa. He was taken in by his childhood friend, who believed Conan to be a distant relative of Shinichi's. However, Conan refused to tell her any part of the truth in an attempt to protect her from becoming involved. Even if it meant he had to watch her wonder why Shinichi had never come home and worry over him.

And that was Conan's new life. Living the life of an ordinary child, while watching his real life falling apart because he was no longer there to live it.  But the mysteries didn't stop coming just because he looked like a kid now. Using inventions created by his neighbor, he figured out ways to manipulate the people around him into coming to the right conclusions and take the credit for solving the cases.

Over time Conan discovered information on the criminal group that poisoned him and dedicated himself to bringing an end to the organization. He met and became allies with a former organization member named Sherry, who had also become a child when she took the same poison. She began working on a finding an antidote for the poison while joining Conan in his life as a child. Later, he discovered agents from the FBI, CIA and Japan's Secret Service had infiltrated the Organization, and began working with them.

REINCARNATION
Name: James Bredon "Jimmy" Dupin
Age: 16
Appearance: Very similar in appearance to his teenage self. His hair is a few shades lighter and his eyes are a lighter shade of blue.

History:
Jimmy was born in America, and grew up in New York City. His father is an officer with the NYC police department and his mother is an attorney. He also has three older siblings, all involved with law enforcement to some degree. As the youngest child of the family, his life has been somewhat sheltered up to this point. Jimmy gets along well with his family, but he is more than ready to strike out on his own. This is one of the reasons he applied to become an exchange student. He chose England because of his interest in the British mystery authors.

Jimmy was introduced to the works of Agatha Christie at a very young age, and he idolizes Hercule Poirot and Ms. Marple. He has read extensively in classic detective literature, but has never read a Sherlock Holmes novel. Jimmy went through a stage as a child where he wanted to become a detective like the ones he read about, but when he learned that consulting detectives like that didn't really exist in the real world he decided to write mysteries instead. He has already had a number of short mystery stories submitted to magazines, and a few were even published to excellent reviews. Jimmy is currently thinking about what the plot of his first full length novel should be.

He plays soccer very well, and is considering whether it is something he wants to pursue in college, or if he wants to focus on his writing career. Currently, he is just beginning a year as an exchange student in Mossgate. He is in his last year of secondary school, and is currently staying with a host family in Mossgate.

First Echo:
Cause: Overhearing someone playing Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata on a piano. He had heard it in movies before, but never in person.

What was Echoed: The conclusion of the Moonlight Sonata Case, which was the source of Shinichi's belief that a detective who cornered a criminal with logic but did nothing to prevent them from committing suicide was no better than a murderer.

Why:
The sound of the Moonlight Sonata being played in the distance was a recurring theme in that case.

PERSONALITY
Pre-Incarnation Personality:
Shinichi is brilliantly intelligent, cool-headed, independent and logical. And also a hopeless mystery geek. His ability for deductive logic, extensive knowledge of esoteric topics and analytical ability make him an amazing detective. He is hardly ever wrong, once he has figured a case out. Even cases that have been labeled unsolvable. There is a reason that the media took to calling him a modern day Holmes.

But at the same times, his genius has created problems for him. He is completely unable to resist a mystery. If he finds one, his curiosity will not let him rest until he finds an answer. When in the middle of an investigation he often forgets the danger of hunting suspects in a child's body. He can deduct motives and solve impossibly complicated riddles, but he doesn't really understand people on a personal level. He didn't understand his own feelings for his childhood friend Ran until it was too late to tell her anything, and he has repeatedly missed obvious hints from others about their feelings for him. He can also be very forgetful about his personal life. He never remembers his own birthday, for example. He also has trouble relating to his peers. Even before his shrinking, he was almost completely isolated from his classmates, apart from Ran. He is most comfortable when dealing with adults at a professional level.

He can be childish sometimes, particularly when someone brings up the topic of soccer or his favorite mystery novels. When he was still Shinichi, he admitted to deliberately putting on a mature and serious attitude so that the police would listen to him. As Conan now he often puts on an act of sugary enthusiasm for the benefit of adults. Especially when at a murder scene and drawing attention to vital clues. He is probably truest to his own personality among his classmates in first grade and among the few people who know his secret. But even with them he is secretive.

He believes in justice. If finding the truth involves bending or breaking the law, he will do that without a seconds regret. He also believes that there is nothing that justifies the taking of a life, even if it is a murderer's life. Once he told a fellow high school detective that cornering someone with logic and allowing them to commit suicide was the same as committing murder themselves.

He has the worst luck in the world when it comes to stumbling across cases. He can't go anywhere without dead bodies turning up somewhere. Amusement parks, the mall, bus-rides, the beach, parties, restaurants, even if he is just walking down the street. If there is a crime happening anywhere in the area, he will be there. If there is a way for a person to die, he has probably seen it before. And no matter how horrific the scene, he is never phased. He sees bodies as evidence. Nothing more.

His forced second childhood has turned him into a kind of deadpan snarker. He is never shy about making acerbic observations about the people around him, though most of those comments never leave his head. Particularly if they're getting off track in a murder investigation. Additionally, his act as a child has made him more than a little manipulative. He is entirely capable of leading adults through an entire investigation without ever letting them know what was really happening.

He idolizes Sherlock Holmes, and has deliberately modeled himself after the detective. And he is a natural skeptic when it comes to ghosts, aliens, and magic. He has repeatedly run into murderers attempting to disguise their crimes as the works of ghosts or local monster stories. Upon meeting any people with such special powers, he is likely to immediately assume it is a hoax to cover up for another crime.

Shinichi has a habit of taking everything on himself. He tends to be very closemouthed about the things that are really bothering him and will never ask for help even if he needs it. He often forgets just how physically vulnerable he is right now, especially when he gets caught up in the chase. He is terrified of the Black Organization ever discovering that Shinichi Kudo is still alive. Not just because of what it would mean for his own life, but because it would all of his friends would have a target placed on them as well.

Any differences?:
Jimmy has a much more relaxed personality than Shinichi does. Having never gone through the events that created completely justifiable cynicism and paranoia in Shinichi, James has a much more optimistic look on life. He trusts much more easily, and is more willing to ask for help when he needs it. He's still proud, but when he knows he can't handle a problem at home, he will ask for help. Having grown up with siblings and always having his parents as a resource he never developed the level of independence of his previous self. He never needed to.

He's still extremely intelligent, and struggled with making friends as a child, but he never became as isolated as he did in his previous life. Because of this, he was more social in school, and understands other people much better. He is still a walking encyclopedia of trivia and odd abilities, but not nearly at the scale he was in his previous life.

Unlike his previous self, James abandoned any interest in becoming a detective himself early in his life, setting his sight on becoming a mystery writer instead. He never became a famous detective in high school, and never experienced the media circus that came with it. As a result he is much less arrogant than Shinichi was at the same age. He is very proud of the few short stories that have been published, and will gladly make anyone who shows the slightest interest all the positive reviews he's gotten.

Abilities:
  • Age Transformation
    • Not a true ability, as this was caused by the poison that was given to Shinichi. Once affected by it, he shrank to the size of a child. Rarely he was able to return to his teenage self, but the change is very dangerous to his health and not something he can do often.

ROLEPLAY SAMPLES

- 3rd person/action:

Test Drive

- 1st person/network:
[There was a small boy scowling into the video feed.. Even from the rather limited view,i it was obvious that he couldn't be much older than seven. After a few moments his expression shifts into calculated cheerfulness. He'd long ago learned that strangers were more inclined to answer questions from a cute child.]

Ne! Can anyone see this? This is a little strange, isn't it? I was going to go to the library today, but this doesn't look anything like the one in Beika City.

Did anyone else end up here by surprise? And does anyone know the way home?

Ran-neechan will get upset if I'm not home in time for dinner.

[A pause, followed by some much more genuine enthusiasm.]

But as long as I'm here.... Is there a mystery section? I've read all the ones in the library at home!

So... Shinichi has the skills of a modern day Holmes.  What this means is that he is ridiculously observant and capable of putting together tiny clues in your character's appearance, clothing and voice to put together some very accurate deductions about their life and recent history.
Obviously, I don't know all of the canons around Wake.  So it would really help me out a lot if you could answer some quick questions.

1.  What does your character look like?  Is there anything in their appearance/voice/clothing that stands out?  An accent, scar, calluses, etc.
2.  What is Shinichi allowed to figure out about your character?  Do they have any hobbies or skills?  Canonly, he has figured out such things as swords or archery, gymnastics, smokers, chefs, artists, etc.
3. Anything you would specifically like him to figure out?

Canon point: Chapter 1, with characterization taken from numerous flashback episodes throughout the canon
Age: 17
Appearance:

Shinichi's mannerisms and expressions tend to change dramatically depending on who he is speaking to and what situation he is in. When at home or with close friends he is usually very relaxed and informal. His expression is often irritable and annoyed, except when expounding on interesting details and facts about mysteries. When it comes to mysteries and soccer he tends to act much younger and more excitable. When speaking to unknown adults and authority figures he becomes very formal and adult-like. He has admitted that this is because he deliberately adopted a mature attitude to get the police to take him seriously.

Background: The Great Detective of the East

Previous Game History: N/A

Personality:
Shinichi is brilliantly intelligent, cool-headed, independent, logical, and acerbic. And hopelessly in love with his childhood friend Ran. His ability for deductive logic, immense knowledge, and analytical ability make him an amazing detective. He is hardly ever wrong, once he has figured a case out. Even cases that have been labeled unsolvable.

But at the same times, his genius has created problems for him. He is completely unable to resist a mystery. If he finds one, his curiosity will not let him rest until he finds an answer. He can also be very forgetful about his personal life. He never remembers his own birthday, for example. He also has trouble relating to his peers. He is most comfortable when dealing with adults at a professional level.

Shinichi's core personality is a bored and irritable boy. He finds most of the typical occupations of his peers uninteresting and constantly runs a sarcastic commentary on the people around him. At times he can be rather childish. For example, sulking over being forced to attend a show he finds uninteresting. He can often be heard to complain that magic shows and thieves are boring. Only a few things can snap him out of this. Any mention of Sherlock Holmes will instantly turn him into an enthusiastic boy who can ramble on for hours about his favorite cases. And the appearance of a mystery of any kind will instantly bring out his razor sharp focus. Once he is on the hunt to solve a mystery he is almost impossible to distract. He is a huge fan of soccer, and admits to a fondness for cars and cheesecake. An there is Ran, of course. His most important person.

He has admitted to deliberately putting on a mature and serious attitude so that the police would listen to him.

He believes in justice. If finding the truth involves bending or breaking the law, he will do that without a seconds regret. He also believes that there is nothing that justifies the taking of a life, even if it is a murderer's life. Shinichi has a habit of taking everything on himself. He tends to be very closemouthed about the things that are really bothering him and will never ask for help even if he needs it. He also tends to be slightly arrogant about his skills as a detective.

Strengths/Abilities:
Shinichi is a brilliant detective along the lines of Sherlock Holmes., Given a single glance at a person's appearance or the scene of a crime and he can deduct a great deal about them. He has never yet seen a case that he could not solve. This comes into play in other parts of his life as well. He is very difficult to trick or to lie to, because he has the observation skill to catch the lie or illusion in action. He has also made an effort to acquire skills that would be useful in his line of work. Everything from marksmanship to codebreaking to piloting various vehicles.

Weaknesses:

Social Awkwardness at anything outside of crime scenes. Shinichi doesn't really understand how other kids his age think or act. He's much more comfortable dealing with adults at a professional level. His intense focus on detective work and insistence on ignoring social invitations in favor of reading or practicing soccer has often lead to accusations from his peers of snobbishness or arrogance.

Singing. Although he has perfect pitch, Shinichi has no relative pitch at all. This means that he can read music, and listen to it. But he is completely incapable of replicating a melody with his voice, or even staying on key.

Although he is ridiculously competent with everything related to detective work, Shinichi is somewhat less competent at handling day-to-day life. Such as cooking, talking to normal people without accidentally insulting them, shopping, etc.

At this point in his life, Shinichi is more than a little arrogant. As expected of a teenager who has been solving high-profile 'unsolveable' cases since he was 14. And who has never been wrong.

He fears allowing people to die on his watch, and he fears failing his friend Ran. Who is nearly his only friend. He tends to blame himself when he can't save people from the crimes he solves.

Although he can use logic to predict how a criminal will act, he has admitted that he has never been able to understand what drives one person to kill another. It makes no sense to him.

Action:
[A tall blue-eyed teenager looks seriously into the mirror. He coughs slightly into his hand, and then begins speaking in a calm, confident voice.]

May I have your attention? This is high school detective Shinichi Kudo.

Over the past few days I have begun conducting my investigations into the motive and mechanism of our arrival here.  Currently I am working on building a timeline of events.

Is anyone willing to assist me in answering some questions?  It may be useful if we can establish any similarities in our arrivals here.

Third Person Prose:

The problem with being a high school detective, Shinichi often thought, was that he was still in high school. It wasn't only that he often had to fight to get adults to listen to him. He'd expected that when he had first decided that he would be a detective. And after nearly two years of work, that wasn't even much of a problem anymore. To the Japanese police force the mere mention of his name was often enough to get the respect he needed.

And now, in this situation, he was starting at the beginning once again. His initial efforts to gather information from the others trapped here had met with less than ideal success. Not outright derision, like he remembered from his first case. But he had seen clear doubt in his ability to discover anything useful.

And in a way that was even worse.

But he would solve this case. He had encountered difficult cases before, but there had never been one he couldn't solve. A mystery was nothing more than a puzzle created by the human mind after all. And there was no such a thing as a puzzle that could not be solved. If there was no answer in the accounts of the people taken here, he would simply need to seek out other information. He would solve this and find a way home.

[ Canon Point ] : Chapter 802, just after being rescued from his SECOND kidnapping of the day

[ History ] :
The Child Detective
The Great Detective of the East

[ Personality ] :
The first thing anyone notices about Conan is his intelligence. He knows and understands far too much, even for his true age. Ask him about practically any topic and he can ramble about it knowledgeably. As the seven -year-old he appears to be he attempts to conceal the full extent of his knowledge and deduction skill, but he has never been very successful at this. He tries to appear like an ordinary child, but he doesn't really have clue what normal is.

He is brilliantly intelligent, cool-headed, independent, logical, and acerbic.

When in the middle of an investigation he often forgets the danger of hunting suspects in a child's body. He can deduct motives and solve impossibly complicated riddles, but he doesn't really understand people on a personal level. He didn't understand his own feelings for Ran until it was too late to tell her anything, and he has repeatedly missed obvious hints from others about their feelings for him. He can also be very forgetful about his personal life. He never remembers his own birthday, for example. He also has trouble relating to his peers. Even before his shrinking, he was almost completely isolated from his classmates, apart from Ran. He is most comfortable when dealing with adults at a professional level.

Whatever name you call him by, he has always had a habit of putting on different personalities to get the results he wants. Shinichi's core personality is a bored and irritable boy. He finds most of the typical occupations of his peers uninteresting and constantly runs a sarcastic commentary on the people around him. Only a few things can snap him out of this. Any mention of Sherlock Holmes will instantly turn him into an enthusiastic boy who can ramble on for hours. And the appearance of a mystery of any kind will instantly bring out his razor sharp focus. Once he is on the hunt to solve a mystery he is almost impossible to distract. He is a huge fan of soccer, and admits to a fondness for cheesecake. And there is Ran, of course. His most important person.

Even when he was still Shinichi, he admitted to deliberately putting on a mature and serious attitude so that the police would listen to him. As Conan now he often puts on an act of sugary enthusiasm for the benefit of adults. Especially when at a murder scene and drawing attention to vital clues. He is probably truest to his own personality among his classmates in first grade and among th few people who know his secret. But even with them he is secretive.

Currently Conan has only two goals in his life. First, to reclaim his old life and to finally confess his feelings to Ran. To do this he needs to find an antidote for the poison that turned him into a child and he needs to bring an end to the Black Organization. Secondly, he has the goal of finding the truth behind every crime he stumbles across.

If they still don't get it, he will resort to drugging them and using them as living puppets.

He idolizes Sherlock Holmes, and has deliberately modeled himself after the detective. And he is a natural skeptic when it comes to ghosts, monsters, and magic. He has repeatedly run into murderers attempting to disguise their crimes as the works of ghosts or local monster stories. Upon meeting any people with such special powers here, he is likely to immediately assume it is a hoax to cover up for another crime.

But he is most terrified that Ran will get hurt. If it means that she won't get involved he is willing to lie directly to his best friend. Even if it means she will hate him if she ever finds out.

He hates lying, and he hates being in this situation where his whole lie is a lie. But even more, he hates what he has done to Ran. He has to sit and watch Ran getting upset and worried about Shinichi's disappearance, when all he has to offer her is an occasional phonecall through a voice changer.

[ Strengths/Weaknesses ] :
Strengths

He's a detective. One of, if not the, best in his canon. Basically this means that he has incredible skills of observation, is good at reading criminal's intentions and is capable of putting together pieces of seemingly unrelated information to figure out the method and reasoning behind elaborate crimes. Conan has vast amounts of information memorized on hundreds of different topics. Most of them relating to solving murders. He has also shown other skills such as piloting aircraft, advanced marksmanship, knowledge of poisons and the human body and solving riddles and codes.

Conan is also an amazing, if slightly reckless skateboarder.  He has incredible soccer skills, and nearly perfect aim with anything he can fire or kick.

Weaknesses

Physically, Conan is no stronger than any other child.  Although he has learned how to use gadgets to compensate for his weaknesses, the truth is that it is very easy to physically overpower him.  He can easily be picked up and thrown around by pretty much any adult.  He is also very prone to childhood illnesses such as colds.

He is bad at understanding anything that applies to himself.  For example, he never remembers his own birthday and he seems to be oblivious to the personal feelings people have for him.  He can read things like crushes when they apply to other people, but never notices when people develop one on him.

He is completely tone deaf.  He has no relative pitch at all, and is unable to sing on key at all.

[ Other Important Facts ] :
Although I played him here before for a few months, I am reapping him from a different canon point and with no memories of his time in Vatheon.

No, the problem was that even Inspector Megure had begun to forget that he still had school to attend.  Many of his teachers had begun to complain about too many missed classes.

And so here he was filling out some tedious extra credit assignments.  Well, if it meant he would have more time to look into interesting mysteries he really couldn't complain.  And it wasn't like these assignments were any kind of challenge.  With a sigh Shinichi finishes off the last of his English assignment and moves to take out his physics book.

And that, of course was when he heard the scream.  Almost before the last of the sound died away Shinichi was on his feet and sprinting toward the source, leaving his textbooks abandoned on the table behind him.  He bursts into the next room and calmly takes in the scene before him.  A body on the floor, with a pair of chopsticks lying nearby.  Two men and a woman standing nearby.

"Don't move!" he orders as he takes a few steps into the room.  Careful not to disturb anything in the scene, he kneels down and takes the victim's pulse.  There!  It was faint, but this man was not dead.   "Somebody call the police and an ambulance!"
